While a traditional facelift can bring dramatic improvements to your appearance, it doesn't adequately address the cheek or mid-face region. When the signs of aging are concentrated around the cheeks, nose and eyes, a mid-face lift is often more appropriate.
This procedure lifts your cheeks, softening the heaviness and deep folds between the nose and upper lip. Mid-face lifting is often performed with lower Eyelid Surgery to improve the entire cheek-lower lid complex. It can be performed with less trauma and a shorter recovery time than a full facelift.
Who Should Consider a Mid-Face Lift?
- The mid-face lift procedure is suited for patients with sagging cheek tissue and with heaviness of the folds around their nose and mouth.
- For best results, Dr. Goldman may advise performing the mid-face lift in conjunction with Eyelid Surgery or a Forehead Lift / Endoscopic Brow Lift
What Does the Procedure Involve?
- The patient receives a combination of local anesthesia and sedation, or general anesthesia.
- In one technique, Dr. Goldman will make an incision in the lower lash line to gain access to the cheeks and lower eyelids. A second incision may also be made under the upper lip to help release the deep tissue attachments of the cheek, allowing for a more effective lift. In an endoscopic technique, the surgeon inserts lighted scopes through two incisions made in the temples behind the hairline, as well as inside the mouth.
- The surgeon will lift the facial muscles, reposition fat pads over the cheek bones, and manipulate other tissues before tightening the skin.
What is Recovery Like?
- Patients usually can return to work or normal activites after a week.
- Mild bruising or swelling may last for one to two weeks.
- You should avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks and contact sports for six weeks.
